Hubble space telescope work is renowned the world over. Thanks to the Hubble space telescope we know about asteroids, meteors, planets, stars, Quasars, black holes and even galaxies of which we had never been aware before its invention in 1929.

Hubble space telescope work announced just this month includes the decision by Hubble astronomers and scientists that what was once considered an asteroid, and dubbed 1 Ceres, may in fact be a planet. Small though it is, and probably in its embryonic state as a planet,
Hubble space telescope work brought scientists to this conclusion as they saw, thanks to photos produced as part of Hubble space telescope, that Ceres may contain vast amounts of frozen water just beneath its surface.

The Hubble space telescope also showed that, like earth, Ceres might contain a rocky core with a thin but dusty crust on the outside.

The Hubble space telescope determined that the width of Ceres is about 580 miles, which is roughly the size of the state of Texas. It resides between Mars and Jupiter and is about 1/14th the mass of the planet Pluto.

The Hubble space telescope used by astronomers included the use of the telescope's advanced survey camera. They studied Ceres for nine hours, until it completed a full rotation. Hubble took 267 photos of Ceres, which led astronomers to the determination that Ceres is almost completely round. It is this roundness discovered by the Hubble space telescope that led astronomers to the probability that Ceres is, or is becoming, a planet.
